Hardy Diagnostics CRITERION™ Agar, Bacteriological Grade is used as a solidifying agent in the preparation of solid and semi-solid culture media.
This is a raw material intended to be used in the making of prepared media products, which will require further processing, additional ingredients, or supplements.
Agar is produced from species of red marine algae, Gellidium spp. It is used as the solidifying agent in most solid and semi-solid medias. It does not have the disadvantages of gelatin, its predecessor. Agar is incorporated into solid microbiological media at concentrations of 1 to 2%.
STORAGE AND SHELF LIFE
Store the sealed bottle(s) containing dehydrated culture medium at 2-30ºC. Dehydrated culture medium is very hygroscopic. Keep lid tightly sealed. Protect dehydrated culture media from moisture and light. The dehydrated culture media should be discarded if it is not free-flowing or if the color has changed from its original light beige.
CRITERION™ Agar, Bacteriological Grade is not a growth promoting media, it is intended to be incorporated into microbiological media formulas.
MATERIALS REQUIRED BUT NOT PROVIDED
Standard microbiological supplies and equipment such as autoclaves, petri plates, glassware, incubators, etc., are not provided.
CRITERION™ Agar, Bacteriological Grade powder should appear homogeneous, free-flowing, and light beige in color. At a concentration of 1.5% the prepared media should appear slightly opalescent, and light to medium amber in color.
